Cloud of conciousness

My second assignment for the sculpture class was to make a sculpture in clay for my mid-terms. We didn't have a particular topic about it, so it was very open project. I was thinking of a multitude of small object, arranged in some special way. I wanted them to be small, colorful and vivid.
Mostly of my works are very personally orientated, so i wanted to create something that is meaningful for me, and also a part of my everyday life. So i decided to create a lot of small object from everyday, ordinary life, and also some abstract, formless objects that can be a part of conciousness and thinking process. The way i wanted to arrange them was to make some sort of a "cloud" that is around my head, and that can be also around somebody other's head, so that you are basically stepping into my micro-universe. I decided to make a construction of wood and wire, to hang it on a doorway, as a passage between two different places. I used a stronger wire and a wooden "cross" to make a construction of a "cloud" and i used tiny wire for make my small object hang in a very movable way. I wanted them to "play" around your head, in a same way that they are playing in my head.
So i first started making small objects in clay. I used for a half of the objects fired clay, and for other half i used some sort of clay which is drying by itself and it doesn't need to be fired.

Those who were fired are definitely more solid. I also decided to make a small blank flat object and write different messages on them, such as thoughts, song lyrics, movie and books quotes, more-less everything that had some influence on me during my stay here.

Some of them i fired after they dried, and some of them needed to stay longer and dry naturally. So i had a sort of small exibition at my studio :) They looked very cute all together.

After drying they were completely ready for colouring. At first i wanted to glaze them, but that was to complicated because of the fact that they are very small and that after glazing i need to fire them again, so i decided to use acril colours, which are easy to work with, they are drying fast and i have a multitude of different colours.

So, colouring!

Now they are colorful gropu of different things!

After colour-work, i made a wire construction and i put it all together. i love the way how it's moving! it's lovely <3

When i finished it, i wanted to try to put it somewhere else that the doorway. So i found a wonderful huge window at one of my classrooms, i hanged my sculpture in the window and i was watching what was going on. IT'S ALIVE! I was very happy. My sculpture was hanging in the window, trough you could see beautiful Siena, to feel a summer breeze, to see how the sculpture i spinning on the wind, how the wire is having a reflection from the sun and it's shining, the sounds which is creating. It was a wonderful experience.

And finally, self-portrait <3

My first assignment for the sculpture class was to make found objects sculpture. I was thinking a lot what to use for this project, and my final choice was: an apple, an usb cable, one hanger, a bit of tiny wire and small piece of clay.

First thing i did was " USB apple".

This idea was mainly about new technologies and how we should use them. The main idea was that you plug an apple in your computer, and it's growing, and you have it ready every day you wake up. Or it can be a vitamin-recharge. Or a way to prolong freshness.

The second thing that came in my mind was a hanger, and how should i use it for something different that just hanging a clothes. I find wire hangers extremely boring, i prefer those girly hangers with bows and floral textures, made of silk and so on, but this wire hanger served for something a bit different.

First, he's hot a nice clay head with horns of wire, so it became a hanger deer used for different things. Before eating an usb apple, i decided to play a little bit more with it, so i made this deer apple holder.

Continuing my hanger-experiment, i started to think of juxtaposition. So i wanted to find another purpose for the hanger. I was thinking that i could use it again to hold something, so i made this paper holder for my studio, because i really needed to keep my papers in some order.

And it's working pretty well. It still has a deer head, and it's making me laugh when I'm looking at it. I think that playing with found objects can be really interesting, just important thing is not to plan what you want to find. Because it's ruining your curiosity and experiments.

Now i can eat my apple, and later plug it in my computer so it will grow for tomorrow.
